“Nobody wants to listen to what you have to say”

“What if the idea that you say is different from the others? And they may not like it”

“Your ideas are not really good and they may laugh at you”

These are the words that I heard in my head for the longest time. I vividly remember a situation in a meeting at my previous workplace. We were going around the table giving suggestions on what to do about an event. When I wanted to voice my opinion, I heard those voices.

So, I kept quiet.

I didn’t want to be embarrassed.

The funny thing was that, I was so obedient to those voices that I didn’t even challenge it. But, whose voice was that?

Me? God? Devil?

But I am a Christian, does the devil talks to me?  Is it God, how can I know if its God? Is it my own voice?

Fast forward 20 years later….

I realized that those voices were telling me lies. One thing I know for sure, it was not God’s voice because His message does not contradict who He is. The message that those voices speaks de-values me. That is not God.

Why did I hear those voices in the first place?

I grew up the 3rd child in a family of 4 siblings. Sandwiched between strong personalities and dysfunction, I, as a person was loss, undiscovered, wounded and suppressed. A diamond in the making. The diamond in me was covered with layers of coal.

My opinion was never valued in those circumstances and overshadowed. I also have a very mild, contented personality and get along with most 90% of the population on the planet. I also married a man with strong personality. Eventually, I was just  “buried” and believed those lies about myself.

How to deal with it?

So, I began to Renounce those lies and it stopped hindering me from voicing my opinion.

How do I do it? Simple.

I just said, “I renounce the lies that that “Nobody wants to listen to what you have to say”, “What if the idea that you say is different from the others? And they may not like it”, “Your ideas are not really good and they may laugh at you”.

Try it today.

Will I stop hearing those voices?

When I began to realize that those voices were not God’s or even “good advice” I refused to listen to it. Even when it did speak, it had no power over me because I no longer believed it and rejected it. After awhile, I no longer hear it.

These days, whenever I want to speak, I will just do so without feeling that I have nothing worthwhile to say.

I have another article that will teach you to “reject” stuffs and not taking it in. Read it here.
